Reclaimed Barn Siding
Reclaimed barn siding consists of planks and boards recovered from the walls, both inside and out, of old barns. After standing against the elements for decades, sometimes over a hundred years, the wood develops a unique, distressed look and deep character.
Each plank has its own story. No two pieces are identical, even if they come from the same structure. Color and texture vary based on the wood species, the barn’s location, sun exposure, and even ivy coverage. Planks from harsher conditions naturally have a more weathered look.
Exterior siding often has a rougher texture and may still show faint traces of its original red or white paint. Interior boards are usually smoother and range from sandy brown to rich chocolate. Nail holes, screw marks, knots, and dents vary from plank to plank and add unique character.
To uphold our quality standards, each board undergoes a careful inspection. The process begins with removing nails, followed by a thorough power wash to strip away dirt and grime. Finally, we kiln-dry the wood to a moisture content of 6% to 8% and eliminate any potential insects.
Newly Aged Gray Board
Love the weathered look of barn wood, but want a more uniform color? Our newly aged gray boards are the perfect solution.
To create the look of reclaimed wood, we start with new white pine boards. These are left outside for four to six months, allowing them to weather naturally in the sun. Once the boards have the right look, we kiln-dry them to a moisture content of 8% to 10%. This removes excess moisture and gets rid of any potential insects.
Builders, architects, and designers wanted a consistent silver-grey finish. In response, we developed our newly aged gray boards. Their striking appearance makes them a choice for standout design features, including accent walls and ceilings.
